Teaser Tuesday 03/28/2011
I have decided to join in Teaser Tuesday blog fest, details below: Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following: Grab your current read Open to a random page Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!) Share the author and perhaps a link to the book so that folks can add it to their own TBR lists. Don't forget to pop over to the host site below. http://shouldbereading.wordpress.com/2011/03/29/teaser-tuesdays-mar-29/ So every Tuesday I will now be posting a ‘teaser’ of the book I reviewed the previous week. Last week Hellogon by John Booth was the writer I know so here is the teaser: The alley became so dark the wall on the other side disappeared from view and the girl vanished in the gloom. Only a limited amount of light from the neon orange street lights in the main street penetrated into it. Peter opened his window as wide as it would go so he could look down and listen for any noises. The alley lit up as a door opened below Peter’s window. It was the mirror of the filled-in doorway and the projected light created the illusion of another door in the wall. Peter saw the shadow of a man wearing a long coat go through the door. The door closed and the alley was once again plunged into darkness. I have wanted to read something by John Booth since he was published and have finally gotten around to it! I occasionally like to dip into fantasy so with the lure of vampires and warlocks along with a hint of romance, Hellogon was the one for me. Was I ever glad I chose it. John weaves the story through slowly in the beginning but not so slow that I lost interest but quite the opposite. I was intrigued. I wanted to know why everyone seemed to know Peter. Who the mysterious Sal was and would a romance blossom. These questions were answered in an unexpected and interesting way. I like how Peter moves into his birthright with ease while still keeping some element of ‘human’ about him as he learns the ways of Hellogon as we do. Added to this was Peter’s character change as he, with confidence and a touch of arrogance I thought fitting, fell into his new persona. The growing affection between Sal and Peter is naughty but endearing and I loved and related to Sal in ways I perhaps shouldn’t. ;) I don’t want to give too much away so I will say all in all this is a vivid, imaginative and intriguing story that kept me turning pages and sneaking a read whenever I had the time. This is what we want from a story and Mr Booth delivers. The only bad thing I can say about Hellogon, there is no sequel yet! | AuthorI am Me... A romance writer who loves creating love stories.
