This is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time and the reason the review was a long time coming. I wanted to saviour every word. Take in every moment.
With excellent well drawn characters, vivid descriptions, a great back drop of WWII and a rich tapestry of a story, this book has it all. Add to the mix old worldly vampires and Raven’s unique take on them. The wonderful thing about this story is it isn’t just about vampires or Dark Kind but it is about relationships between human and Dark Kind, relationships between the vampires themselves and the senselessness of war and bloodshed. With endearing characters in Khari, Jaziel and Joe Devene this book will draw you in and won’t let go.
The masterful story telling of Raven astounds me. I first read The Unwise Woman of Fuggis Mire which was clever in its quirky take on the fantasy genre... then to read Blood Tears and the diversity shown in this excellent book has awed me.
I don’t want to give too much away and to be honest I can only rave from here... I will be reading the rest in this series. Raven Dane is a unique talent.
